Molly Sims on authenticity and motherhood

The model and actor is celebrating two launches - her new YouTube channel with Awestruck and the impending arrival of her third child.

These days, Molly Sims is all about being candid —and that includes in her reaction to having a third baby.

“We were like, ‘Oh my God, holy shit, we’re having another baby,'” the 43-year-old model and actor told StreamDaily in the days following her public pregnancy announcement, which was timed with the launch of her YouTube channel.

Sims, who has appeared in the movies Yes Man and Starsky & Hutch, admits the online world has helped to provide her with a vehicle for being more honest and open — especially on subjects that women are often told no one wants to hear, like weight gain and postpartum depression. She credits that shift to the YouTube generation.

“I think the millennials have really done us a favor opening up the world of talking about whatever you want to talk about. It’s not like moms just became cool. It’s just that moms now have an outlet to talk about the things they used to just keep to themselves or only say to their friends: Saggy boobs, poopy diapers, feeling tired, feeling excited, feeling overwhelmed, feeling depressed. It makes people feel that they’re not alone,” she said.

It’s fitting, then, that Sims is signed to Awestruck, the AwesomenessTV-owned network focused on millennial moms. The network has signed a number of digital-first stars, such as GloZell Green, as well as traditional stars like Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi of Jersey Shore fame and Pirates of the Caribbean actor Zoe Saldana.

Sims will post videos once per week that focus on her pregnancy, as well as her beauty regimen, favorite foods and day-to-day family life. She’ll collaborate with a number of Awestruck’s creators, including Green and Kitschy Kitchen creator Claire Thomas.

While the subject matter remains relatively broad, Sims wants to approach it all with the same theme: total honesty.

“I will continue to be open about things like the fact that I’ve had Botox done, the fact that I exercise far more than a normal person does,” she said. “By seeing that honest side of me, it helps to actually remove a lot of the smoke and mirrors, this idea that I’m naturally a certain way.”
