Daniel Tibbets (pictured, left) is taking the reins of U.S. cable channel El Rey Network as president and general manager.
The former chief content officer for gaming-focused MCN Machinima will now oversee day-to-day operations for the English-language, general entertainment linear channel.
He will be based in Los Angeles and report to El Rey chairman and founder Robert Rodriguez (right). There, he will be tasked with leading the digital expansion of the network (which airs series such as Lucha Underground and From Dusk Til Dawn: The Series).
Tibbets will also head up content strategy and development, scheduling, production, acquisitions, talent relations, ad sales, business affairs and business development.
“El Rey Network’s unique brand proposition is palpable. There’s an authenticity and energy to the content that sets it apart,” Tibbets said in a statement. “Viewers understand what El Rey stands for and advertisers want to engage with our audience and that makes this a truly exciting opportunity.”
Tibbets joined Machinima in 2014. During his time with the network, he oversaw the launch of Machinima Studios, as well as several majorly successful series including Chasing the Cup and Battlefield Friends.
Launched by filmmaker Rodriguez through a deal with Univision, the Hispanic-targeted net also airs cult classic features, action, horror and sci-fi content.
