Plimsoll preps ‘Camp Zambia’ for SVOD

SVOD services Love Nature and Smithsonian Earth have partnered with Deadly Instincts producer Plimsoll Productions to launch ‘Camp Zambia‘ (pictured), a two-year natural history project.

Under the deal, the trio of companies will develop and produce 50 hours of wildlife and nature programs in 4K that range from blue chip footage of animal behavior to character-led series. From a studio based in Luangwa, Zambia, production teams will aim to capture the breadth of African wildlife, including stories of elephants from a dedicated sanctuary and the wildebeest and zebra migrations from across the Liuwa Plains.

The content, which will be available for licensing through Blue Ant International, will be produced for Love Nature’s global digital and linear platforms, as well as the Smithsonian streaming service in the U.S.

The project will support Love Nature’s commitment of annually developing and distributing 200 hours of 4K nature and wildlife content.

Plimsoll’s production team for the natural history strand includes former BBC and Discovery exec Andrew Jackson, executive VP of international production; Martha Holmes, head of wildlife; and James Smith, series editor.

“The expansive landscapes, varied weather conditions and vast array of wildlife make the ideal combination for a spectacular 4K experience,” said Jo Parkinson, MD of Love Nature International, in a statement.

“Embedding film crews in a single location for two years, which allows for round-the clock-filming, will provide global audiences with an extraordinary opportunity to immerse themselves into the lives of individual animals,” added David Royle, executive VP of programming and production at Smithsonian Networks.
