Studio 71, the MCN formerly known as Collective Digital Studio, has signed a partnership with Canadian producer Just For Laughs Group. The deal is designed to help the brand behind the long-running live comedy festival and linear television programs expand its digital presence and better keep up with competitors in the online comedy world.
Specifically, it will see Studio 71 co-produce and repurpose content from the annual Just For Laughs annual comedy festival held in Montreal. In addition, the MCN work with Just For Laughs on advertising and branded content deals for its digital brands.
Eric Y. Lapointe, senior director, international sales and digital development with Just for Laughs Group, said in a statement that the international reach of Studio 71 (owned by German media group ProSiebenSat. 1) will help the Just For Laughs brand hit its digital targets.
“With Studio71’s offices in Europe and North America, we are confident that this new partnership will help us optimize our YouTube channels, obtain new branded integration opportunities and continue to significantly grow our digital business,” he said.
Just For Laughs Group, which produces festivals, linear originals and live shows, as well as managing talent, already has more than 5.1 million subscribers and over 2.2 billion monthly views to its YouTube channel. Its content is also available on SVODs Hulu and Seeso.
This is the second move Studio 71 has made to expand its presence in Canada. Recently, the network signed Toronto-based food vlogger The Domestic Geek and restaurateur Matt Basile in preparation of the launch of a new food vertical and a kitchen production studio.
