South-Asian OTT provider YuppTV has partnered with media co &TV to provide users with more Hindi-language programming options.
YuppTV, which boasts 25,000 hours or programming in 12 languages worldwide, will acquire a slate of &TV’s original television programs ranging across all genres, as well as a small collection of films. Titles include the family comedy BhabhiJi Ghar Par Hai, horror series Darr Sabko Lagta Hai and the thriller Agent Raghav – Crime Branch (pictured). The titles can be accessed on YuppTV’s web site, on smart TVs, smart Blu-ray players, gaming consoles and on Yupp’s mobile app.
The service is most popular with Indians both in India and abroad, and boasts a total of eight million mobile downloads, according to a release from Yupp.
OTT and streaming is still a relatively new world in India. The streaming service Hooq, owned by Singapore telco Singtel, launched in India as well as Singapore and the Philippines in mid-2015, and the SVOD Arré, which produced the original docuseries Re-Gender, launched in January.
In January, Netflix officially launched in India, along with 130 other countries as part of a massive global expansion.
The &TV firm is owned by global media co Zee Entertainment.
