The first multi-platform network dedicated to capturing Cuban life is slated to launch in April as a result of an exclusive partnership with RTV Comercial of Cuba (RTVC).

CubaNetwork, a subsidiary of privately-held Caribbean Broadcasting Network, will be unveiled first as an OTT platform in April, with premium content provider Vubiquity serving as a handler for the VOD’s digital storefront management services. A linear cable network will follow one month later in May, with a mobile app also in development.

Headquartered in Hollywood, CubaNetwork is currently in the process of opening a production facility in Havana to co-produce English-language content with RTVC, including a live daily program featuring news, lifestyle, music and sports reports, as well as interviews and local stories.

The broadcaster, which will be made available to viewers in both English and Spanish, will provide thousands of hours of original and exclusive programming from Havana, including shows on classic American cars, salsa singers, and inventive offerings in the culinary, culture and nightlife spaces.

Initial programming will come from a Cuban library that includes Cuban-made documentaries, TV movies, telenovelas and entertainment series. Exclusive rights to a number of Cuban sports – baseball, boxing, basketball and soccer – will carry over in the deal.

“There’s never been a greater thirst to experience the rich, exotic and vibrant culture of Cuba. That’s why we are launching a new entertainment brand that will serve as a powerful destination for digital video online and on cable with compelling content for the U.S. consumer,” said CEO Keith Bass, in a statement.
