Teen-oriented AwesomenessTV will create and produce multiple feature films for YouTube over the next 18 months, with the first one bowing in the fall.
“We think the platform is really ready for long form, so now we will make movies that will star YouTubers and premiere on YouTube,” said AwesomenessTV CEO and founder Brian Robbins in a statement.
Kelly Merryman, YouTube’s VP, content partnership, said it was the success of the AwesomenessTV film Expelled, starring YouTube personality Cameron Dallas (pictured, right), that sealed the deal.
“We believe feature-length content can thrive on YouTube and know many of our top creators are eager to explore long-form storytelling,” said Merryman.
Each film will premiere on YouTube and then be made available to other platforms. Marketing will mainly done virally through the large social followings of each YouTube star.
No further information regarding titles or participants is being released at this time.
