A few days after securing $24 million in investment led by Warner Bros. Entertainment, downsizing its shop by 13 people and announcing the shuttering of Respawn Channel, gamer-oriented MCN Machinima has revealed a new partnership.
Machinima is partnering with Vimeo On Demand to bring its 30,000-strong creator network to Vimeo’s open self-distribution platform. The content development and distribution deal will enable select Machinima programming and some creators of the Machinima talent network to receive dedicated funding from Vimeo in exchange for exclusivity on Vimeo On Demand.
The agreement also makes Vimeo On Demand Machinima’s go-to transactional VOD platform, with Vimeo becoming integrated into Machinima’s console talent management system, a creator toolkit that gives them in-depth analytics, social tools, support and earning reports.
Machinima creators will also receive a discounted Vimeo Pro account to publish work on Vimeo.
According to a Vimeo spokesperson, the success with the non-Machinima gamer culture film Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie – which premiered Sept. 2 on Vimeo on Demand and had more than 8,000 transactions in the first 24 hours in 80 countries – piqued Vimeo’s interest in seeking out a partner.
The first Machinima content to be made available on Vimeo On Demand will be announced at a later date.
