Amazon announced on Wednesday that it has renewed the original series Mozart in the Jungle for a second season. It will premiere in early 2016 exclusively on Prime Instant Video.
Series stars Gael Garcia Bernal (Rosewater), Saffron Burrows (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Lola Kirke (Gone Girl) and Malcolm McDowell (The Mentalist, A Clockwork Orange) are set to return.
Based on the critically acclaimed memoir Mozart in the Jungle: Sex, Drugs & Classical Music by Blair Tindall, the series is set against the backdrop of a fictional New York symphony, where artistic dedication and creativity collide with mind games, politicking and survival instincts.
The first 10-episode season premiered in its entirety on Dec. 23, 2014.
The second season of Mozart in the Jungle will be executive produced by cousins Roman Coppola (Moonrise Kingdom) and Jason Schwartzman (The Darjeeling Limited), and Paul Weitz (About a Boy). Additional details will be announced in the coming months.
