Netflix will premiere Edward Norton-backed documentary My Own Man on March 6.

The film, which is being exec produced by the Birdman actor, is a personal exploration of masculinity and fatherhood, following director/producer David Sampliner as he immerses himself in a series of masculine activities such as hunting and warrior weekends after finding out he is about to become a father.

“When I started making this film, I wanted to document an experience I shared with a lot of my peers: becoming a husband and father in a time when the roles for men were changing so dramatically,” the director said in a statement Tuesday.

“But in the course of shooting over 7 years, I realized that discovering how to be a 21st century dad meant coming to terms with my own father. I’m hoping that by watching a portrait of my family, audiences will find new ways of understanding their own.”

My Own Man premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last year. It will be available in all markets where Netflix is available.

The doc was produced by Sixteen Tons Production in association with Class 5 Films. Norton, William Migliore, Lisa Nishimura and Adam Del Deo exec produced and Rachel Libert co-produced.
