Fox announced on Wednesday the first several projects for Party Over Here, the network’s comedy development partnership formed earlier this year with The Lonely Island, the production company founded by SNL vets Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone.
It was also announced that executive Billy Rosenberg (The Spectacular Now, Date Night) has been hired as the head of development and production for Party Over Here.
Party Over Here’s first shows are as follows:
- The Tyler Zone: A surreal sci-fi comedy written and directed by music video and commercial vet Keith Schofield, starring Danny Pudi (Community) as a new guy in town who finds himself in the middle of a series of supernatural occurrences.
- Home for the Weekend: A mockumentary-style half-hour comedy hosted by comedian Neal Brennan (Chappelle’s Show) following a celebrity’s return trip to his or her hometown. The first episode in production has Samberg, Schaffer and Taccone returning to their childhood haunts in Berkeley, Calif., where they originally formed The Lonely Island.
- Topics with Andre Hyland: Comedian Andre Hyland (Hollywood & Hyland) morphs into various characters and interacts with an unsuspecting public.
The shows are being produced with the intent of using over-the-top video as their initial distribution platform, with the ultimate goal of turning them into full half-hour series on Fox, FX, FXX, Fox International Channels or other networks.
Starting in 2005, Samberg, Schaffer and Taccone produced a series of comedic music videos for SNL that went viral, including “Dick in a Box,” “Jizz in My Pants,” “I’m on a Boat. Their official upload of “Just 2 Guyz,” the lyrics of which inspired the Party Over Here name, has been viewed more than 10 million times. They have also released 3 albums, Incredibad (2009), Turtleneck & Chain (2011), and The Wack Album (2013), and collaborated on the 2007 feature Hot Rod, starring Samberg. Party Over Here
The trio serves as executive producers for all 3 shows, which are in production now. Additional projects in development will be announced in the coming weeks and months.
