Travel Channel searches for next star

The winner of the search for the next Travel Channel Star will host their own 5-part series on the network's digital platforms next year.

U.S. cable network Travel Channel is taking to the web to discover its next Travel Channel Star.

Potential contestants are invited to submit a 2-minute video online to or appear at a casting call and audition for the 3-round competition series, premiering next year on The eventual winner will be chosen between two finalists during a 1-hour live special on the Travel Channel and be rewarded with their own 5-part series on the network’s digital platforms.

Competition judges include Travel Channel experts Jodi Bettencourt (pictured), the network’s VP of editorial content; Anna Garwood, director of programming and talent relations, and Travel 911 host Rob Pralgo. Travel Channel host Bert Kreischer will host the one-hour special and recap competition highlights, and there will be an interactive elements, as fans will be able to vote for their favorite videos online.

“The video submissions should tell a story and highlight a location that matches contestants’ travel expertise,” said Ross Babbit, Travel Channel’s programming and development senior VP, in a statement.

“What we really want to see come through is personality, point-of-view and a distinct passion and excitement for travel.”
