TIFF ’14: Funny or Die to market mockumentary

The video portal will use its social media reach to help market the U.S. and Canada release of What We Do in the Shadows.

Funny or Die is partnering with U.S. and Canadian distributors to help promote the TIFF title What We Do in the Shadows.

The Midnight Madness film, to debut Friday night in Toronto, is a U.S.-New Zealand co-production from Unison Films and Defender Films.

New York-based Unison has U.S. theatrical distribution rights to the vampire mockumentary, while global distributor The Orchard grabbed the U.S. digital, DVD and broadcast rights. Canadian Distributor Video Services Corp (VSC) has secured the exclusive rights on all platforms up North, it was announced Tuesday.

As part of the  distribution agreements, Funny Or Die will use its wide social media reach to help market the North American release of the mockumentary/comedy written, directed by and starring Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi.

What We Do In The Shadows follows a trio of New Zealand vampires struggling to adapt to modern society.

The film premiered at Sundance.
