Fox is partnering with user-generated content (UGC) platform SendUs to mount an interactive “fan trailer contest” to promote the September launch of its new series Gotham (pictured) it announced at Comic Coc 2013 on Sunday.

The network is inviting fans to watch the trailer for the show, then recreate either all or part of it in animated or live-action formats and upload it to SendUs.

“We ask ourselves, on a daily basis, how we can evolve our distribution methods, customize content and turn as much of our business over to the fans as possible?” said Dean Norris, SVP of Fox marketing & special operations, in a statement.

SendUs is designed to remove administrative and technical challenges of processing UGC with interfaces that can be easily integrated into the client’s website, Facebook page or mobile app; automatic video transcoding; and immediate acquisition of media use rights. It also features content editing and curation tools, along with a variety of APIs and widgets to customize the experience and the ability to download high-resolution videos for broadcast.

Submissions are being accepted until Aug. 20. The winner, announced on Aug. 27, will win a trip to New York City to attend the series’ premiere and have their creation screened on Fox.
