will.i.am. says Maker Studios brings “order” to online ad-revenue model

Through a partnership with the musician Maker Studios will also produce and manage programs for artists he collaborates with.

Maker Studios and Black Eyed Peas singer will.i.am. are going to develop and manage a new online video platform through a partnership announced Wednesday.

The multi-talented star will produce original programming that touches on his interests and creative endeavors that go beyond music. Those includes fashion, innovation, technology and philanthropy. In a statement about the partnership will.i.am, who will also help cultivate emerging talent through the new network, seemed concerned about online revenue models and how they affect content creators.

“Artists are paying money from their own pockets to make videos, putting them on YouTube, and not being first in line to collect the money generated from advertising. Maker Studios is bringing order to that and making it easier for artists to earn money from the content they make,” will.i.am. said.

Maker Studios also will produce and manage upcoming programming for musicians that will.i.am collaborates with, including eight-year-old YouTube rapper Baby Kaely, teen recording artist Cody Wise, and Irish singer-songwriter Leah McFall, a runner-up on “The Voice UK” who was coached by will.i.am.

The partnership also includes e-commerce, interactive and mobile initiatives.
