Vine videos can be disturbingly addictive, even for company co-founder Colin Kroll, who, like Tony Montana (Al Pacino) in the 1983 film Scarface, has failed to heed the proverb that you should never try your own supply.

“I use it for hours a day sometimes,” says Kroll. “I like to keep up with the people that I follow and go into channels, which groups similar videos together around a theme, like cats, for example.”

As Vine approaches the first anniversary of its debut (January 24th), it’s a good time to take a look back at the Best Vines of 2013. Watching the looping six-second video clips (six-and-a-half, if you want to get technical) in their native environment on the Twitter-owned app can be alternately hypnotic, hilarious, surreal and stupefying. Seeing them strung together in one long 23:13 min. segment like this is downright, well… you be the judge.
